Medit Silva has been carrying out its study and research activities on the forms of forest and pasture associated management that are historically active within the Italian Apennine territories and in other mountain areas and on the population currently living there for about 15 years. These territories are rich in history and traditions related to the management of mountain areas.  This management proved  to be sustainable and respectful of forests and pastures over the years.

History :

Fondazione Medit Silva (ITALY) was constituted in the year 1997 as a non-profit association and since 2010 it is a Foundation. Medit Silva has obtained recognition of its Legal Status from the Marche Regional Authority.
Its partners are Coldiretti (the biggest Italian association of people working in agriculture and forestry), Federforeste (Italian Federation of Forestry Properties), the local Mountain Community of Catria and Nerone, the Municipality of Frontone and the Province of Pesaro and Urbino.

Mission :
Its aims are:

• To promote research and studies related to the Apennine Mountains and the Mediterranean Area Forest, and their natural, flora, socio-cultural, historic and human resources;
  

• To promote and carry out research and cultural development activities, through seminars, workshops, courses for students, teachers and all people interested in environmental issues;
  

• To plan and coordinate initiatives for environmental education and training, even with the direct involvement of schools and institutes;
  

• To develop and manage initiatives addressed to the enhancement of agricultural, silvicultural and rural resources, of Community Property and Common land;
  

• To promote the development of natural, flora, socio-cultural, historic and human resources at EU level;
  

• To give qualified services, information and assistance to young people, teachers, professionals associations, public administrators, etc…;
  

• To promote and manage training courses and study sessions for students, post-graduated and unemployed people to prepare and maintain qualified staff on topics regarding the mountain, the territory the associated management of forest areas and the environment in general.
